GT Track & Field Locker Rooms/Team Areas Renovation
The current locker rooms and team areas for Georgia Tech Track & Field/Country have a proud history. They have housed ACC champions, All-Americans, NCAA champions and Olympic medalists. However, that space, located in the Coliseum Annex adjacent to McCamish Pavilion, is more 30 than years old. Head coaches Grover Hinsdale and Alan Drosky have identified renovating their locker rooms and team areas as a top priority for their program to be able to build on its tradition of developing champions.
We invite you to join us in making this project a reality
The Vision
After more than 30 years of use, an investment is needed in order to transform the space into an area that will assist our coaches in recruiting elite student-athletes and provide our student-athletes with the resources needed to compete at the highest levels of collegiate track and field.
Renovation plans are expected to cost approximately $2 million. The project will include completely new locker rooms for both the men’s and women’s programs, new sports medicine, training and hydrotherapy rooms, as well as nutrition and common areas.
The Commitment
Georgia Tech Track & Field/Cross Country moved into its current locker rooms and team areas in 1988 after they were vacated by men’s and women’s basketball. Since that time, more than 800 student-athletes, including Olympic medalists, NCAA champions, All-Americans and conference champions have passed through the same doorways. Current head coaches Grover Hinsdale and Alan Drosky have identified renovating the outdated team area as their top priority for moving the track and field programs forward.
The Impact
These improvements are designed to address the core components of our mission with Georgia Tech Athletics and the track and field programs:
The philanthropy provided by the generosity of Georgia Tech Track & Field/Cross Country alumni and friends will be transformative in ushering these programs into a new era of championship-level success. In addition, this renovation will serve to recruit the most academically qualified student-athletes from around the nation, and a huge step forward for a program with more than 100 years of history on the Georgia Tech campus.
Donors will be recognized on a plaque in the new space for commitments beginning at $25,000.
Donors may also have their name recognized on a locker in the new locker room for commitments beginning at $5,000.
Mack Reese, MGT 1983
“Not only did my participation in the Georgia Tech Track & Field program allow me to compete at the highest level of Division I athletics, it instilled in me the requisite values, discipline and work ethic required to lead a purposeful and meaningful life. Now I have decided to give back with an investment that will help current and future student- athletes secure the same types of opportunities that a Georgia Tech education provided for me and my family.”
Through the Years
Gifts and commitments to Georgia Tech Athletics’ fundraising arm, the Alexander-Tharpe Fund, totaled a record-setting $58.3 million for the 2020 fiscal year.
The $58.3 million raised from July 2019-June 2020 exceeded the A-T Fund’s previous single-year record of $53.5 million, set in FY 2019.
Let's build the future for Georgia Tech Athletics!
